An adapter for the hotend fan and for the Z-axis endstop will be included as will a cable for the display so that they will all connect to the mainboard without any problems.

  • After placing your order please provide at least one stepper motor model number from either the X, Y, or the extruder. You may send this information via the contact us page or reply to your order confirmation email.
  • Also if you can please take a picture of the display connector and the hotend fan connector. The pictures should be looking at the connectors from the side where the opening is. This matters because some V1 boards use a different size connector for those two headers. The proper wire sets will be provided for those that need it at no extra cost.
  • If you order additional items with the mainboard please know that they will not be shipped until your mainboard is shipped. If you would like those items right away please order those items separately.

This is hopefully a temporary description for the quiet option of the mainboard replacement for the Select Mini V1. This option is also available for the V2 and the "Pro"/V3.

A fan for cooling the mainboard is recommended but should not be required but is recommended if the room temperature is over 80°F. Each board is tested by running multiple prints without a cooling fan but it couldn't hurt to have one.

Here is a Google Photos album with videos and a couple pictures that show off the TMC stepper drivers. Some pictures show variable resistors which will not be on the mainboards because they are not needed but can be added for an additional cost if they are wanted.

Basically it will make the printer much quieter when printing. There fans will be the loudest part of the machine and then maybe a little bearing noise but that will vary from printer to printer.

I will not claim that swapping the stock A4988 stepper drivers with TMC2208 stepper drivers will make prints come out better or print faster. I will say that this upgrade will make the printer much quieter without loss of quality or speed. No firmware modifications are needed. No hardware changes have to be made by the user to accommodate the upgraded driver. As far as the user is concerned all is the same in regards to hooking up the board and printing with the same slicer settings as used before.

NOTE: The TMC2208 drivers are running in "legacy mode". The TMC2208 will interpolate received step signals to 256 microsteps. UART is not available in legacy mode.

Brought my v1 back to life!

    Posted by chip1234 on May 28th 2019

My stock mainboard was failing to properly drive the extruder stepper, rendering my printer inoperable. I sent in the photos as requested, and Matt sent the replacement board and three adapter cables. The included sheet with GCODE values also helped me troubleshoot to get the printer operational again. It might just be me -- but even though I didn't buy the "quiet" board this one seems quieter than the stock one. Thanks GigDigit!

    Awesome replacement or upgrade

Posted by Andrew Youngberg on Jan 24th 2019

Ordered the TMC (silent) drivers to replace the original controller board that had failed. Love how quiet the printer is with the upgrade chips! Matthew was very helpful and answered all my questions about the upgrade and also tests the boards before they are mailed out to ensure they print correctly. Instructions to reverse motor directions (if needed) and adapters for connections that were different sizes were included. Will DEFINITELY be ordering any future replacement parts from GigDigit!

    Mainboard Replacement

Posted by JJ on Jun 25th 2018

Supplier is very responsive to e-mails and the replacement board solved my issue of both my thermistors not reading. Didn't even have to fiddle with any settings. Just plug-n-play.

Replacement V2 main board installed in original V1 MPSM was a perfect fit and easy swap. Extra leads for the smaller display and fan JST connectors provided were appreciated and worked perfectly. Finding a source for the smaller board fan lead male

Very pleased that it booted up perfectly on initial switch on! No glitches at all with PC USB 3 connections on Pronterface G-code and Micro SD card interfaces. Have yet to try wireless connection.
USPS international mail delivery service to to my Calgary Alberta Canda was excellent. Only mail glitch was with with local Canada Post delivery to my home, post man did not attempt ringing door belll, and initiated a ‘return to sender’ instruction by posting a false ‘unknown’ address note. Caused almost a week’s delay in receipt of package!
Otherwise a great product and service provided by GigDigit!
Thanks so much Matthew, for all your personal advice to me and the myriad of postings on all aspects of the MPSM 3D Printer!
