As bent as the one I got it to replace, no response

Posted by Unknown on Jun 21st 2018

Ordered this to replace my original and bent rod. Came just as bent as the last one, reached out through website and did not receive a response

    GigDigit response:
When I saw the review today I went searching through past emails that contained the words "threaded rod" and sure enough there was an email from June 1 that I don't remember reading. I must have marked the email as read when clearing out the order confirmation, shipping, and delivered emails and for that I apologize. I have now responded to the email just adding my response below the review.

The reason I am responding to this review is because it is a common misconception that threaded rods are going to be perfectly straight. Threaded rods, especially of this diameter are rarely going to be straight. Threaded rods will almost always have a slight bend to them unless made using a more expensive metal and process. Lead screws are what should be straight but a threaded rod is not a lead screw.

The threaded rod is responsible for up and down movements. The smooth rods are what guides the movement. The reason that there is nothing holding the threaded rod in place at the top is so that the wobble will not be constrained which would cause binding and prevent up and down movement.

Make sure that the threaded rod is not resting on the motor shaft. There should be a little space between the two before tightening the set screw. If there is still wobble that is unacceptable then please try to use a different coupler and/or some Z-axis stabilizers both of which can be found at the following link.

    Perfect Replacement... But....

Perfect replacement. I only wish Monoprice would have put a sturdier lead screw in the MP Select Mini. with the length of the unsupported gantry, the original was surprisingly easy to bend.
